"If we listened to our intellect, we'd never have a love affair. We'd never have a friendship. We'd never go into business, because we'd be cynical. Well, that's nonsense. You've got to jump off cliffs all the time and build your wings on the way down." -- Ray Bradbury

RIP, Ray Bradbury
Ray Bradbury, whom I quote at the top of this blog, has departed this plane of existence. I like that quote, not only for what it says, but because Mr. Bradbury is one of those who "made it" as a fiction writer.
“People say, ‘Are you a fantasy writer?’ No,” Mr. Bradbury told the Charlotte Observer in 1997. “‘Are you a science fiction writer?’ No. I’m a magician.”
(I got that quote from a well-written obit in today's Washington Post.)
Writing confers a kind of immortality on the writer. It's a way of leaving your mark on the world. I guess that's why I do it.
